Sofas and Futons

Posted under Uncategorized

If you are wondering what is the difference between a sofa and a futon, it is pretty simple. A sofa is a piece of furniture which is often referred to as a couch. A futon, on the other hand, is a mattress that makes up a Japanese bed. A couch or sofa is an upholstered piece of furniture. It is designed for the comfortable seating of two and sometimes more people. Often, there is an armrest on each side. Sofas are usually placed in the family room, living room, or in a den. They are covered in leather or textiles. The most common sofa is the loveseat.

Japanese futons are flat with a fabric exterior stuffed with a synthetic batting. They are frequently sold in sets. Futons are designed to be placed on tatami flooring. It is very common to fold up futons during the day and store them in the closet. This is to allow the tatami to breathe. It also allows for more flexibility to use the room for other activities during this time. Many Japanese folks beat their futons using a special bamboo tool.

The best product is mild detergent like washing up liquid and warm water, when dried buff with furniture polish.I do this to my leather sofas and they come up lovely.

just bought a new black leather sofa need furniture suggestions?

Posted under sofa furniture

hey guys/girls,
i just bought a brand new black leather sofa, im a guy and im really really bad with design, just need a few tips on what would go well in the living room with the sofa.. im moving into my first apartment and it has white walls and white carpet. not much room but enough to put furniture…i just honestly need all the help i can get, what colors go well with black leather. what kind of furniture, coffee tables, as well as like what kind of artwork should i put up in my bachelor pad, things of that nature. its open ended really. just looking for some brainstorming. give me all the knowledge i need to go buy some furniture

Hi,
Typical guy, buying a black leather sofa for your first place. :)
That is the usual first choice for men. But there are worst things than that. You could have ended up with Grandma’s old country furniture.

Think of Black furniture as you would the screen of your TV, and music system. It works with most other colors well.

But choose colors that are close or complimentary on the color wheel.
Reds, neutrals ( such as beige, greens, browns) lighter shades of blue go great with black.

If you do not like the red or green colors in the design I am suggesting below. Then change it out with the beige, blue or cream / light brown combination.
Accent with touches of beige, blue or cream colored shades in the accent pillows, art works and glass wear.
When adding a color put it in the room in three places. Such as the pillows, art works, and glass wear in the space.
Beige or blue paint on a wall behind a black sofa would look nice.
If you go with that color scheme then use touches of blue accents.
Use light colors against the black sofa so they show up.
I suggest chrome based lamps to add some shine and light to the room. But if you have a ceiling light of a different metal then you may be locked into going with that shade of metal in your choice of metal in the room. If so I would choose a wood or glass lamp of color or see through.
Place a contemporary style area rug in front of the sofa to define the space.
Buy one or two beige or cream colored side chairs for more seating.
This choice in lighter color will lighten up the room. You could paint the wall behind the chairs blue as an accent wall and show off the chairs nicely. But paint all the remaining walls beige.

Here is another color scheme.
You could choose a nice shade of a calm green paint for the walls but paint one wall red.
But look around for coordinating rugs and pillows before you choose a paint color.
If you can, place the sofa on the wall you painted red.
Place a Contemporary area rug with some shades of reds, green and black for in front of the sofa.
Place color matching red and green throw pillows for the sofa.
Make sure the colors of red and green are the same or very close.
Maybe you can find a neutral side chair and toss a pillow in the chair too.
Place a piece or two of nice colored (red and green) glass works
(such as a cool vase or sculpture) on the coffee table and on floating shelves on the wall. Choose the floating shelves in either the same shade of wood your tables are or black.
Choose some modern art work with some of the reds, greens and neutral colors to match your color scheme. If the art is framed. Choose the same frames for all of your art works. Such as Chrome, black or the same shade of wood as the tables again.
It is all about continuity in the colors, woods and metal, through out the design of the room.
Do not use too much black. The sofa and any other electronic equipment ( such as your flat panel TV and sounds systems) you might have will be a lot of black in the room.
Choose a light full length drapes for your windows or perhaps wooden bamboo shades (in a color similar to the wood of your tables).

Keep in mind any other colors that can be seen from the living room.
Such as a dinning room that is a certain color.
It is good to kind of make the flow from one room to another flow smoothly. So you might need to use that color in your room or change it to match the newly decorated room.

I hope this information helps you in the decorating of your room. I wish I could be of more help but it is difficult to design or give advice to a room I have never seen.
Keep in mind the personnel in the stores will be willing and able to help you in your choices when shopping.

Have fun decorating. Remember if you paint a wall and do not like it.
It is only paint and you can repaint it over with one you like.

Enjoy your new home!
