I want a futon in my bedroom, but all the ones i have looked at look very uncomfortable, or not the style im looking for. This is one i liked:http://www.futons-store.com/p/ameriwood-basic-futon but it looks uncomfortable.
Here are a couple of sites to try:

My son wants a futon for his college apartment bedroom. It will serve as his bed and a place to hang out. I am worried it won't be comfortable enough for sleep. I saw a 6 inch memory foam mattress for futons. Does anyone know how comfortable they are or how well they hold up?
I slept on a futon for 4 years through college and I can tell you the mattress is KEY! If you do not skimp on a futon mattress, you can have a great place to hangout and to sleep. I paid about $250 for just my futon mattress, and it was great for the four years.

I have a regular folding futon with a thicker mattress (not the really thin kind that usually come with iron framed-futons).
One side is starting to sink in a bit and I think I'd like a new one soon.
I'm looking for one that comfy to sleep on, but doesn't cost much more than $150. Any suggestions on a comfy type of futon mattress?
Thanks : )
I have a futon myself with a very good (aka. expensive) mattress…trust me whichever mattress you get WILL get a crease in the middle assuming you leave it in a couch position most of the time. Also, the really good ones are hard to fold in half (going from bed to couch). We have to remove the mattress, fold the futon, and shove the mattress back into place. With all of this it is a two person job - which isn't what you think of with a futon. So my opinion is get the best one in your price range and try to pull it in and out yourself to see how easy it works. Good Luck!

Hello!
I've been wanting to get a Shiki-futon for a long time! They save a lot of space! But I haven't ever tried sleeping on one. Does anybody have one? Are they nice? Do you find it alright to just use it on the floor or do you need extra things underneath?
Thank you for any help!
The wooden frame for a futon was developed after the 2nd World War as the occupying American forces wanted to take them home as souvenirs, but didn't want to sleep on the floor like the Japanese did. I would say, as I have one as an 'occasional bed' that it's fine to sleep on the floor, and no, you shouldn't need anything extra if your floor isn't too cold.
