Can anyone recommend companies in London SE1 who buy and collect 2nd hand furniture from your home?

Posted under sofa furniture

I need to sell some furniture (sofa, chairs, tables etc) but need a company who can come to my home, assess the products and make me an offer for them. The company must also be able to collect.

good question…Try Govem and Harp. Or Slatter n Finch. These two have been running for about 25 years. Both can be found on the net. Just type in the names and go google i guess. Took all my stuff and even moved it for free. I even bought some stuff from them. A bit like swapping old junk, but we were both as happy as larry.

My Golden Retriver Puppy chew Many Times Sofa, furniture and chairs what i should do ?

Posted under sofa furniture

thats why my mom dont like him

he is 3 months old

My golden retriever puppy chewed constantly when I first took him home. However, I got an antichew spray and liberally sprayed everything he wanted to chew that wasn't a toy, then bought him a lot of suitable puppy toys. This worked. Now, if he chews anything unsuitable, he gets a blast of pet corrector air over his head. This also works. You can get pet corrector spray for about £7 from Company of Animals, and anti-chew spray from most good pet stores. Any strongly spicy or bitter sauce would work equally well, but might damage the furniture. A bottle filled with stones and thrown to the side of the puppy (never hit the puppy as he doesn't realise he's doing wrong).

For toys, avoid any stitched stuffed toys or squeaky toys: golden retrievers are excellent at destroying these in minutes. Instead, nylabone chews (I would never give my puppy any other plastic chews as the other types are dangerous), knotted rope toys, petstages and kong toys are all good options. Given his age, cardboard rolls (eg from kitchen rolls) would also be fun toys. As an occasional treat, crisp raw vegetables (especially carrots) are good, provided you check they're not poisonous first. Personally, I stick to carrots, as most other types give Brodie (my puppy) stomach upsets. Ice cubes are also fun toys (but only in rooms with no easily damaged items).

Unsuitable toys that must NEVER be given to a puppy include:

sticks: these break off and can cause abcesses. If swallowed they cause internal damge and will kill your puppy if he is not promptly operated on by a vet.

rawhide: this breaks off when wet with saliva, gets swalloed and swells up inside the dog, killing him

plastic toys other than those made by reputable companies: if it's plastic and not made by nylabone, petstages, company of animals (kongs) or orbee, don't buy it. Many plastics have sharp edges when chewed and can hurt your dog.

anything that squeaks: I use squeaky tennis balls made by kong, but anything else that's squeaky is to be avoided at all costs. Goldens will not rest until that squeaker is killed (this usually takes less than fifteen minutes).

Also, put your dog on a long line (string or rope will do nicely) so that if he chews furniture, you can give his collar a sharp tug and release, teaching him to avoid furniture. This also allows you to keep him within a safe distance of you.

Finally, crate train that puppy. Puppies that have been crate trained are fastest to be house-trained (less than seven days usually: Brodie took two days), are calmest and are the only puppies that can be left unsupervised for more than half a second. If he's not in a crate you cannot let your eyes off him for even a second. Golden retriever puppies are incredibly strong, enthusiastic chewers. However, after his adult teeth come in at five months, he will settle down, and eventually, he will not chew at all, except for his chew toys, which he will need all his life.Do not lose hope: you puppy will eventually calm down and become a wonderful dog.

Oh, and play with your puppy as much as possible, and take him for walks (although no more than 30 minutes a day unless your vet says otherwise). Tired puppies are good puppies. Badly behaved puppies are usually needing more exercise and games. Try training him to do basic obedience (sit, down, stand and stay) or to fetch tennis balls and other toys. Goldens need mental exercise as well as physical. Good luck.

Furniture Poll: What do you call the piece that most consider a Sofa?

Posted under sofa furniture

I've heard it called a Sofa, Couch and also Davenport. Which made me curious to know if it may have originated in Davenport IA or if maybe there was just a furniture maker there that people often bought sofas from. So what do you call it?

i call it a bed

does anybody have gently used furniture that they would like to donate to help furnish a home?

Posted under sofa furniture

in need of gently used furniture(sofa loveseat) /dryer/art supplies/ art work etc for free! in georgia.

Try www.freecycle.org. It is a group that you join by town and can look for and give away stuff instead of throwing it away or donating it to places where it will be shelved for months. Sometimes you can find stuff on craigslist as well. Good luck.
