Do futons and children (with destructive tendencies) get along??

I am considering buying a wood frame futon for our den/play area. I am wondering if it would be durable enough to withstand (a considerable amount of) potential abuse from rambunctious children.
The children often play in this area (often loosly supervised and many times unattended for periods of time) and they're grade school boys who can tend to play pretty rough at times.
Right now I have no furniture at all in this room. It's a room that doubles as a play area and family room (it is not a formal room at all). I need to furnish it and I need some ideas. Oh, and I'm on somewhat of a tight budget, so I need thrifty ideas.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
Honestly I dont think a futon is the right choice for that type of space. You mention you are on a budget..so the type fo futon you would be most likely to buy would not be able to take the kids…the one that I could afford ended up being pretty crappy and that was with out kids hanging out on it!
