What is the quality / value of an older Hickory House Furniture camel-back, Chippendale-style sofa?
Posted under sofa furnitureUpholstery is pistachio velvet, wood legs and braces are mahogony color, and it is of sizeable length with one cushion. Judging by knicks on the woodwork, minor rough spots on the fabric, and the 70's color and fabric, it is several decades old. The structure is solid, and the coils and padding are in excellent condition. It is very comfortable, and was quite affordable from a local thrift shop.
This question has gone a week without an answer. An item like this is very hard to value. It is not old enough to be considered an antique, therefore it will not be found in antique price guides. I suspect that the only way to value it is to determine what it is worth to you. If you are happy with the price you paid, and intend to keep it, I wouldn't worry too much about its' value.
Since it is relatively new, you can refinish the wood and reupholster the piece without damaging its' value … as you might if it was an antiique. If you decide to sell it, you might want to consider an upscale used furniture consignment shop. They usually have a good feel for the value of good furniture. Take them some good photos and they will probably be willing to offer you an opinion. You also might want to look at similar items that have sold on e-bay to get an idea of its' value.
Good luck with your search for information.
